In 2007, the piano program at Belmont University received a significant bequest from the estate of Merrydale Woods, a long-time resident of Nashville and, herself, a piano teacher. Through the generosity of Mrs. Woods’ gift, Belmont University was able to become an All-Steinway School. In addition we were able to establish the Woods Piano Scholarship and this Woods Piano Concert Series.
The Woods Piano Concert Series event takes place in the fall, usually in early October, and brings to the the campus of Belmont University outstanding concert pianists with an international reputation. Most have won awards in the various international piano competitions such as the Cliburn International Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Compeitition, the Cleveland International Piano Compeition, etc.
In addtion to a concert in the McAfee Concert Hall at Belmont University, the artist conducts a master class with piano students in the School of Music.
